Hey Ya'll (who knows how to spell that one?) I don't know if you guys in savannah know about this one, I ran across it somewhere online. It's the Atlanta Photography Group out of the south show... it's a bit pricy ($50, for up to 20 images though!), but could lead to you showing your work in Atlanta. It's juried by Julian Cox who is the curator of photography for the High Museum of Art, so that's cool. Here's the link:

Guess what? Yours truly and a former member of the Savannah scene, Isabel Foley, were just each awarded a spot out of 50 in Positive Focus' 2006 Body of Work international competition. Positive Focus is a nonprofit center for emerging photo artists and through the annual judging of portfolios come up with 50 of the top emerging photographers. they then take those 50 portfolios and have a social event with a huge guest list of gallery owners and art buyers featuring the portfolios. They also send out CDs with the portfolios on them to over 250 galleries, art buyers, and such around the world. Pretty sweet deal!

Here I am in Breckenridge, Colorado, just in time for Oktoberfest! Lots of polka and beer and weird German rap music. It was around 50 degrees when this was going on.
Afterwards, it warmed up to almost 70 and Melanie and I went exploriing throught the town. It is a really pretty town with a lot of original gold mining architecture. The building we are staying in was an old shed for a local business owner from the 1890's. It was recently renovated to have a studio on the ground floor and an apartment upstairs.
Then, Thursday, all hell broke loose and the temperature plummeted to a balmy 15 degrees and it dumped an unseasonal 20 inches of snow over two days. Good thing we have heating.
This week I have been working on the community project I outlined in my application, so people are constantly coming into the studio for me. I am doing a series of portraitypes for the town, similar to the one we did in Aishman's class for the Photoartsreview picture. (Thanks, Joos, for the inspiration!). Next week it is supposed to warm up and I will have time to get my 8x10 into the mountains. What am I saying, I am already at an elevation of 2 miles. I guess I will be going to the TOP os the mountains. |

I hope that all of you are planning to attend this years national SPE event in Miami. If the exciting chance to meet cool artists and hang out with Rebecca, Bliss, Mosch, and Tom wasn't enough, there is now the added perk of trying to make me nervous as I present this year. That's right, me presenting? What the @$#!. It's gonna be crazy. But seriously, plan on coming because I need your cheers, (especially if my lecture demands audience participation.)
Talk to Rebecca, she will have all the info you will need to plan for. Also, APPLY FOR THE SCHOLARSHIPS! They give out a lot and they will save you tons of $$$. That is all. Live long and prosper. |

I was approached by Mark Shola about buying prints from my site.
He is a Nigerian 419 scammer now targeting Photographers.
Sample emails are:
Hello ,
Thanks very much for your email,The reason I am sending you this
email is to make final reconfirmation of the work(Travel subway in
Japan size 16x20) and also to let you know that payment will be by
certified Cashier Check. In view of this I need you to email me
any
information that may be required to send the Cashier Check or
traveller check, as I do not want to send the Cashier Check to a
wrong location least they gets into the wrong hands. Regarding the
shipping,due to the weight of the artwork,cause of the crating and
packing some courier service do not render shipment, I have a
company that takes care of the pick up of my consignments for me
and ship to my destination anywhere in the U.S.A, you do not worry
about shipping, the company will send down a representative to
arrange the sales documentation and the pick up from your end for
onward transfer to my destination
I also want to alert you on the fact that you will be receiving
an
overdraft Cashier Check, which will cover the money for the pickup
(pickup and shipping to the final destination) as well as the
money
to be paid to the company that will take care of the pickup and
the
documentation with you. So please, as soon as you receive the
Cashier Check, go and cash them immediately, deduct the money that
accrues to you(artworks & commision), and send the balance to the
Head Office of the company that handles the shipment via the
nearest Western Union agent in your area. Deduct the Western Union

arrrr.....
i am hoping to get some responses. i am in a bit of a pickle. i am trying to figure out what to do about my thesis show. i want it to be awesome creative and me.
i put up some work in red kite studio and got some interesting responses. i am now in the heavy thinking stage and wanting to go insain. i put up three different ways of showing my work. one was the coyote, which i think most of you saw at starlander that was 20x24 and had the wood frame. the next was a diyptech attached to foam core and then hung. the last was a smaller image of the blue boy and pink girl in a 10x13 shadow box, barn wood type frame. now hearing people talk i need to figure out what to do. i invited some professors and their response was that the work looked like it was done by three different people and that since my work is somewhat random that i needed to have the consistancy in my framing style. i am not sure what to think about that. on the one hand i love having my work be random and everytime you look you get something new and it might catch you off guard or give you a different feeling. on the other hand is it good for people to be able to at least recognize a similar style to my pieces. i love that everyone finds something different about my images that they like or can relate too. but is it better to narrow down or go crazy with the idea that each of my images is different. my first thought was to have each image follow its own style with the framing. or do i make at least the wood of the frames match? i dont know yet.
i am just in a lost for what is truely me. i am interested in what others think about this idea, and if they have seen it work or fail. i will in the end discover what is the jade quality and roll with it but for now i just want to hear other peoples opinions .

| I have a general question for everyone. I am looking at doing some portraits and will be outputting them as digital prints or lambda prints, but I need some info. I want them to be 20x24 or larger. Where I am stuck is the capture part. What digital cameras can give me a RAW file big enough for this print size? Or do I need to shoot film and scan it? If so, what resolution will I need to scan 645 negs at? |

Hello long lost Scaddites! This is Lizzie up in Richmond, VA. Not much going on here, best and worst news is that back in July an art buyer for Ralph Lauren Polo got my work into the final 4 artists of a bidding war for a new showroom, but alas my work did not have enough blue in it to go with the theme. So they bought tons of someome else's stuff and paid for shipping costs. At least I got some pretty good exposure (Ha) in the corporate art world. Perhaps someone will remember my stuff for something else. Right now I'm substitute teaching at two local private schools and trying to get a show or two on. Wish me luck! I wish all of you the same!
