3rd Ward is conveniently located in the East Williamsburg Industrial Park, at 195 Morgan Ave. between Meadow and Stagg. Take the L train to Grand Street, head east on Grand and make a right on Morgan.

Brooklyn, NY – August 2, 2006 – is proud to present Strange Instrument, a photography show featuring works by Tema Stauffer, Type A, Amy Stein, Caitlin Atkinson, Ofer Wolberger, Alison Brady, Alexis Scherl and more.
Strange Instrument will be on view August 4 - September 9, 2006. An opening reception will be held on August 4th, 2006 6-9 pm. Gallery hours are Tue and Thu-Sun, 11am to 9pm or by appointment. 3rd Ward is open Mon-Sat, 8am to midnight and Sun, noon to midnight.
Strange Instrument is a compilation of mostly high- contrast color photographs featuring a variety of lighting techniques. From natural light, to hyper-planned, or club lighting, an effect of ambience is created.
Amy Stein uses taxidermy to stage human/animal interaction. These encounters are derived from sensational accounts in newspapers and oral histories local to a small town in Pennsylvania. In The Trasheaters, Stein utilizes spotlights to expose the lupine offenders. In Tema Stauffer’s work it is the ephemeral lighting that magically mystifies forgotten corners at rest stops and gas stations.
Humor and oddity is also a large part of Strange Instrument. In Alexis Scherl’s work, this exists in photo-journalistic snaps of counterculture party life. Type A’s Spittakes resembles the frames of a comic strip and depicts the chronology of error - drinking milk while laughing.
The artists in the show range from recent art school graduates to established artists. They have all taken fine art photography to a masterful level.

This is from my interview for Parsons School from tonight... I am dead serious. New "getting a job" strategy = forget being a serious person and just learn to kick-ass at Jenga. I played with 2 directors from Parsons, but I should probably have let them win, but lets face it... not my style. |

Greatest Show I've Ever Seen!
Rachel and I went to see Cirque du Soleil's Delirium last night and it was by far the most amazing show I have ever seen.
If any of you get a chance to see this show you should! It was the most amazing mixture of multimedia projections, music, dance, and physical strength I have ever seen. I guess just reading about it they say that it is one of the most extreme arena productions ever put together. The plot (or rather the abstraction of an idea) is very consuming as well, so I can't really tell you what it is about, maybe dreams, maybe reality, maybe life and death, or probably a mixture of them all. Think pink floyd, crazy tribal drumming and mysticism, radiohead (lots of radiohead ideology) and really strong gymnasts, who at one point hold themselves up upon each others heads using one arm, all in one! The only thing this experience is lacking is FIRE (aside from the projections of it) IF YOU ONLY LIKE FIRE, don't go see this show! Check out there website! (the preview does it no justice, it almost turned rachel and I off from it at first!)

Hello Everyone!
If anyone is going to be in New York over the next month, or tomorrow thru friday (I'll be there), I won 3rd place at the national competition at Soho Photo and my piece will be up for the next month there. PORTLAND BIENNIAL
hey all from Maine!
i am glad to finally get on this and see what everyone has put up here.
i just wanted to let every one know that the Portland Museum of Art is having a Biennial in 07 and thought some of you might like to submit. you have to have some connection to the state of Maine (sarah j i was thinking of you) and there was not website on the form so you might have to do some searching but i though it would be worth a shot. the dead line is Aug. 7 and if you want i can send forms out to whom ever might want them.
the jurors are Johnnie Winona Ross former faculty member of Maine College of art, Ellen Miller founder of Miller Block Gallery in Boston, and Judith Stein freelance curator, critic and author.
