I went to the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem, MA yesterday. The new addition there is by an architect a few of you may know, Moshe Safdie, the guy who did that awful pretend contemporary art museum in Savannah. (But anyways that's not the point... although I did like the Salem one better, less white and more functional as a museum) At the museum they had a contemporary native american wing and a contemporary indian wing, the latter being highly disappointing, I'm not sure what the art scene is like or if there is one in india. Here are some shots from the contemporary native american wing. What do you guys think? It's nice to see something contemporary, let alone a whole permanent wing dedicated to native american art?
