Just Give Me Money

Hey you! The image seems very sterile, if that makes sense. I like the idea, but I want it to be less of a mugshot, especially if you are going to put this sort of personal thought-provoking title with the image.

 

Hmmm... I think it can exist in the sterility, but you will have to make a really big print of it. I don't think it's gimmicky but I think it plays nicely to the popularity of role-playing in the gaming world. That's probably not what you're going for, but that's what came to my mind. That and those first artsy digital photos we saw in Kuhla's class where they had erased people's mouths. I think with a very large scale print it can be as profound as the title.

 

I'm leaning towards the it looks gimmicky end of things -- Maybe it's partially because of the mugshotness/sterility mentioned before, but it kind of made me think of "hey, neat! Look what I can do with photoshop!" rather than anything about an idea. I'll be the one to say I don't love the idea.

 

i am with Bess, i def, thinks that it looks like Aziz+Cucher, and it is well done so i don't think it looks gimmicky, but i am not sold on it representing the idea of mulitpule moments. are you trying to say that these moments exisist at the same time or trying to show the transisiton from one moment to the next?

 

Thanks for showing the new stuff. I'm not really super into it though. The Aziz-Kutcher comparison is a good one. As for not existing in a space, it's a good thought, but a stark white backdrop is so gimmiky for digital work that it is worse than being in a place. For instance Todd Deutsch and his gamer's series (check out http://www.todddeutsch.com/new19.htm ) obviously they are gamers and lit by TV light in some indoor environment, but if you were in this image with this lighting and the eye movements I would be thinking about the image differently because I could infer without being told why his eyes are moving around yet he is so still. Does that make sense... I want to keep some sterility, but be givin a little more to interpret besides weird eyes.

It is wierd for me to say it, but I know you will understand, I am distracted by the digitalness of it. I've seen lots of amateur photoshoppers do the eye thing before, but that being said I think you have the ability to bring this concept to a new level. I do like the idea a great deal and am fascinated by your last comments. I can't wait to see the others. Thanks again for posting!

 

Excellent! I hear ya on making stuff and glad to hear you are as always. I am trying new things too; like today I am going to try a new knot in my shoes...oooo. But I don't think I will photograph it, it's a bit personal.
